A West Midlands graduate recruitment specialist is encouraging visitors to learn the etiquette of social networking when looking for a job at this year's National Graduate Recruitment Exhibition (NGRE) on 11 and 12 June at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
Grad Central's Jennifer Caswell will be discussing the ways in which visitors can stand out from the crowd to potential employers in a digital arena, as well as the common pitfalls made by graduates when using social networking sites at the Presentation Theatre on Friday at 3.30 pm.
Jennifer Caswell, graduate resourcer at Grad Central, explains: “Graduates need to be careful not to shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to publishing information on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, particularly when you consider that employers are using these sites too and can easily view profiles of potential candidates on Facebook for example. Grad Central has discovered that unprofessional email addresses and inappropriate photos posted on these websites are just a couple of factors that could cost graduates their chance of landing their dream job.
“That's why we are encouraging visitors at the NGRE to understand how best to promote themselves as young professionals online and to consider utilising professional networking tools too such as the LinkedIn, as well as innovative video recruitment tools like our very own Talking CV™ that allows those registered to Grad Central to upload a short video explaining how their relevant skills and experience makes them an ideal employee.”
Grad Central's team of expert recruitment consultants will be located on stand C110 to discuss anything from updating CVs to guidance for interviews to both graduates fresh out of university and those with a number of years of experience under their belt. They will also be representing a number of employers on the day to help successfully place graduates in vacant positions, including leading international research agency Millward Brown.
Lisa Taylor, Senior Human Relations Advisor at Millward Brown, explained: “As we work with 90 per cent of the top one hundred global brands, new faces are a vital part of our organisation. This is why we recruit graduates into our Warwick office every year and we're delighted to be working with Grad Central at this year's exhibition, making sure we employ the best graduates into our client advisory and project management roles.”
